In this episode of Agency Journey, Andrew interviews George B. Thomas from the Sales Lion about how agencies can get started and get the most out of their video marketing.

Video content is exploding, and agencies need to understand the importance of video marketing for themselves and their clients.

Over at the Sales Lion, they use various videos styles and channels to improve and grow their video content audience. Their focus is on education, and they position themselves as an educational hub.

Here are the main takeaways to get you started in the video:

Do a Video Assessment

When you’re first getting started in video marketing, the first step is to do a video assessment. You want to figure out what’s working, what’s not, and what you can do to improve it. To do an audit, you can check the 20 questions scored assessment on The Sales Lion website.

In-House or Out-Source Video Production

Next, when it comes to creating videos, the question is how you plan on doing it. Over at the Sales Lion, they primarily insource it and do it all in-house. This saves on cost and gives them control over the process, and saves them money and time.

The benefits of outsourcing video production are not having a learning curve and working with experts who know the ins and outs to help you craft your vision.

Choosing Your Video Equipment

The next big question individuals have what kind of equipment they should use. George’s take is that whatever equipment you have currently is the best one for you.

Getting started is the main problem for many agencies. There’s a ton of high-quality, affordable tech at your disposal you can use to make engaging videos to communicate with your audience without worrying about all the other options being put out there. There are many different looks and feels you can communicate with your video, and some don’t require fancy equipment.

You can create quick-win videos with your cell phone or Adobe suite, depending on the time and energy you want to allocate towards it. There are all sorts of affordable and simple software you can use to get started.

What Types of Videos You Should Make

Another reason act agencies don’t stick with video marketing or get started is that they don’t know what types of videos to create. To do that, you need to identify what your goals are. George recommends the book “They Ask, You Answer” to help agencies discover what types of videos and the strategy they should be doing.

They primarily create the bottom of the funnel videos, and over at the Sale Lion, they have developed a process checklist to help you work through it.

Create Video Goals

Before any video, you also need to figure out how you’ll communicate your message to achieve your goals. They do this at the Sales Lion to create bullet points of what you want to communicate rather than writing a full script.

Writing a script can quickly make you seem unnatural with how you talk. It’s important to communicate your personality and connect with the audience, not following a word-for-word script.

Consulting Clients on Video

A quick way for agencies to monetize their marketing knowledge is to do be paid to consult on strategies and look and content that businesses can use to get the most from their efforts. Many businesses will pay for this level of expertise since they understand the value of looking good online.

If you want to learn more about how you can do this, check out their pillar piece on video content, several workshops, and a monthly training set up that you can get ideas from to apply at your agency.

3 Secret Tips from the Sales Lion Workshop

Video Email Signatures

As an agency, a great way to use videos is to include video email signatures. That way, you can add personality and give prospects and clients the feeling of who you are as a person and what you do at the agency. This will increase the likability for you as an agency they want to work with.

Create 80% Videos

The next is to create 80% videos. 80% of videos are videos that you use to answer 80% of the questions you can ask about at your business. You then create a short video explaining each of them, which saves you time instead of typing a response, and you can have that content set up that you can also email them, saving you time and, once again, creating that bond with the client or prospect.

Teaser Videos for Content

The last idea George shared is to use teaser videos for content on your website. Videos teasing the top-performing content on your blog and having it set at the top will help increase bounce time and engagement.

This is especially important if you have pages with a high bounce rate. Having the reader watch a brief video at the top will decrease your bounce rate before they even have time to scroll down and learn more.

Video is still exploding in growth, and agencies that quickly learn how to become effective video marketers will be setting themselves up for long-term success.
